Aim

The aim of the session is to examine Health and Safety issues that are relevant to healthcare workers.

Goals and Outcomes

The participants will be able to state they have an increased/renewed awareness of child protection issues
The participants will be able recognize the signs and symptoms of the different types of child abuse
The participants will be able to state they are aware of their role and the roles of others in relation to Child Protection
The participants will be able to state that due to their increased/renewed awareness of child protection issues they can fulfil their role in relation child protection

Physical Abuse - Definition, Signs and Symptoms

Sexual Abuse – Definition, Signs and Symptoms including Physical Indicators and Behavioral Indicators

Neglect – Definition, Physical Signs, Behavioral Signs, Behavioral signs to look out for in parents

Emotional Abuse – Definition, signs and symptoms

Impact of Abuse and Neglect

The Legislative Framework - The Welfare Principle, Child Protection Agencies, Parental Responsibility, Prevention of Abuse, Significant Harm, Designated Person
